BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to EH. COPY. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}1/F14.11.19. RE IGNITION PLUGS. X.3413 X.3129 With reference to CJ's instructions ref.CJ18/E11.11.19, my report to Mr. Hives was that the Lodge porcelain plugs which have been supplied to us by him to be run on the cars on which we are now testing split pistons, and which he also supplied to us for sending to London for the trials cars, type O.9.model, had run entirely satisfactorily, and we have had no trouble. As a matter of fact the battery ignition on 14-PP chassis has run 1,000 miles without any attention being required to the sparking plugs or to the ignition at all, and the ignition, both as regards picking up and slow running is entirely satisfactory. On the contrary, the magneto ignition has certainly got worse, on which the standard K.L.G. plugs have been used. We should like to carry on the running of this car by also using these Lodge plugs for magneto ignition. Can Mr. Hives please supply us with a complete set of these for this purpose ? We take it from Mr. Johnson's instructions that these Lodge plugs must now be standardised and should be glad if you will let us have a copy of your instructions on the matter, so that we can follow this up regarding cars now being delivered andcars already in customers' and Coachbuilders' hands. We shall be glad if you will get this job moving as quickly as ever possible, so that we can deal with it at the same time as the other jobs for which we are sending out the necessary men and material.
