To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} X3854 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn{Mr Robinson}3/LG13.5.27. REBOUND LEAF SPRING. X3854 +4268 We got very good results as regards life from the Woodhead rebound reaf spring. Since we have reported to R.{Sir Henry Royce} however he has not taken much interest in the matter. We believe rebound leaves are of value because they save the main plate breaking which can really be rather dangerous. We want to try on the bump some 20 HP. front springs with two leaves taken from the bottom and put on the top. If we can shew a better life with these springs than the standard springs we shall again take the matter up with R.{Sir Henry Royce} We send herewith a sketch of the sort of spring we had in mind but suggest that you might go rather further into the matter and detail something we could get Firths or Woodheads to make. Perhaps we could use R's latest spring clip rivetted on to the plate. We would like to keep the clips a minimum as R.{Sir Henry Royce} does not seem to like a great number of these used - we are only using two rebound leaves.
