GRY{Shadwell Grylls} x328 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from HDY.{William Hardy} HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.16.8.35. c. Her. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} De. RMC. SECRET. SpectreCodename for Phantom III Gearbox. We send herewith N.Sch.4567 which shows a stronger gearbox stay with flexible ends. This should be fitted to all cars as it is known that existing stays are too weak. S.S.1 in France is fitted with a similar stay but with bronze bushes instead of nitro hardening as asked for here. It should be noted that this scheme requires a piece attached by taper bolts to the frame, and on later gearbox casings the bosses for the stay and filling plug must be machined down as shown.
