S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LTD. CRICKLEWOOD WORKS. S.P. 290 Memorandum for internal correspondence only. To Mr. Nichols. Copies to Messrs. Dorer & Haviland. From Mr. Hester. Date 20.6.34 Re Rolls Royce instruments. I am in receipt of copy of your 'Urgent attention' memo addressed to Mr. Haviland of even date with regard to the above, and have pleasure in advising that my records indicate that 2 clocks, 1 oil gauge, 6 petrol gauges and 1 thermometer have been received from Rolls Royce of Derby. We have also received a tank attachment and a number of articles from Rolls Royce, Cricklewood, but as these are not questioned by Mr. West I propose to give you reports on the gauges, thermometer and clocks which came direct to Service Dept. from Rolls Royce works. Clocks. 2 were received between the 1st and 16th June, 1 being a chargeable transaction and 1 an admitted guarantee claim. With regard to the former my inspectors report that this had apparently been over-oiled away from the works; this was covered by Rolls Royce chargeable order. The second clock was found to have the movement retaining nut adrift. Oil Gauges. I can only trace 1 oil gauge having been received during the period in question. This was replaced free of charge, and the trouble was reading fast. Petrol meters. 6 petrol meters were received, all transactions being concluded on a no charge basis. Of the 6 meters in question 4 were reading absolutely correct (this checked up by the Factory and Service Dept.) 1 had the negative side of control coil faulty, and the other was reading slow, the pointer not being Central. Thermometers. 1 only was received. This was covered by Rolls Royce chargeable order instructing us to repair, and Contd. | ||
