To Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} 34-2 PH.III. SHOCK DAMPER KNOCKS 3-AZ-38 This is a case where it seems almost certain that unnecessary work has been done and false complaint of damper knocks entered on the quarterly complaint list. From the Quarterley Complaints, Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}8/HR.23.4.37. there were five customers complaints of damper knocks on Ph.III. for the previous quarter there were no Ph.III. complaints. On further investigation it was found that 3-AZ-38 was responsible for 3 out of the 5 complaints. In Br/G.10/M.29.6.37 we were told that a new damper has since been fitted to the near side. This makes the 4th. damper knock complaint for 3-AZ-38. We now hear in Br/G.2/M.9.7.37 that new shackles, pins and bushes have been fitted to 3-AZ-38. As we know it is very difficult to hear damper knocks when the shackles are knocking, we think it is very doubtful if there has been more than one justifiable damper complaint. We cannot understand why this car was not tried on the road with the dampers disconnected. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} | ||
