[s]looked upon as an improvement in proportions.[/s]
In an attempt to refit the new dynamo we found a suspension tube clip at the forward end would not retain the swing bolt. On examination of this clip the proportions seem hopeless, as the horns left from the hole are altogether too weak and [s]light[/s][h]short[/h]. More must be added to the forging, and the proper countersunk or counterbored nuts fitted.
My own impression is that it is better to counterbore for this type of bolt, and use a washer under the nut which fits the counterbore. There is no tendency then for the rubbing of the facing of the nut to destroy the retaining part of the surface. A little fault of this order is most exasperating.
The dynamo could not be re-erected until a new cap was procured, it therefore had to lay in the pan while the car was being used.

As regards the knock in the transmission, you pointed this out to Mr. Elliott, but it did not occur to me as being a definite knock until I had the car running on a bumpy road, and although there should be no slack in the transmission in a new car, we are afraid that such slack will eventually get in the transmission. When it does, it appears impossible to avoid this knock, which is undoubtedly caused by the road wheels and back axle dancing up and down as it does in the case of pot holes, giving a torsional [s]movement[/s][h]variation[/h] to the transmission shaft, which naturally would vary the speed of turning in the transmission shaft, and so cause knock in the transmission when any slack exists.
[h]*[/h] This physical phenomenon has never been altered by recent changes of designs,[h]*[/h] as the dimensions are the same as (Contd.)
