(9) Wright manage to control their oil consumption very accurately by paying particular care to the finish of the cylinder bore. They actually remove 1 thousandths on the diameter by lapping, and they take exceptional care to get their ring grooves parallel-sided and at right angles to the piston centres; also get the ring faces at right angles to the working surface.

(10) I asked Wright's for a lot of dope the last time I was there, including instruction books, and they sent them off to London on February 28th last instead of to Derby. Will you make a point of getting this stuff from London? I have the Conqueror book myself.

ECLIPSE AVIATION CORPORATION.

I spent half a day at the Eclipse Aviation Corporation. They are doing an enormous amount of laboratory work on innumerable subjects, and I have tried to arrange with Mr. Marcus, who is head of the outfit, to send us regularly details of the stuff they are working on as it reaches the practical stage, so that when we happen to note anything that interests us we can write to him for further information, and if necessary contact with his representatives in Europe.

The Rotax are at present making the Eclipse electrical starters.

Among other things they are in production with two stage superchargers. They have an automatically variable pitch propellor which of course I saw two years ago but which has now reached the flying stage and will be over in Europe before the end of the year. They have a semi-automatic gearbox on which I had a run yesterday. It has done over 50,000 miles on Mr. Marcus's own car.

I am going to spend a further day there to get some technical information on these projects.
