Contd. -2- There is no reason why someone, say a stores hand, should not be taught to repair plugs in his spare time, if we found the Mercury a satisfactory proposition. Hence the cost of plugs for Works' use should be reduced to one-quarter of the present cost of using those which are quite unrepairable, and nearly uncleanable, with a very large saving in time. So that with Mercury plugs no time should be wasted trying doubtful ones, but clean and fresh plugs should always be quickly available. Years ago I worked on these lines, and have stripped a Mercury, and consider a scheme as indicated above, to be quite a profitable propostion. Each tester should have a box of plugs, say, 24, which he can change for another box of fresh ones at the stores as often as he likes. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
