To PN.{Mr Northey} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X3873 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/LG14.8.28. STABILISATEUR SOGETIN. We have carefully considered this device. In effect it is an anti rolling arrangement. We used the same principle in a simplified form to check high speed wobbles. We attach a sketch of our application thereof. We made the transverse torsion rod any desired thickness to give any required degree of restraint to criss-cross or rolling movement. In the limit, if the rod were made thick enough it would be precisely the same in effect as the Sogetin arrangement but without its complication, possibilities of wear, and attendant knocking propensities. R.{Sir Henry Royce} didn't care for our device because he is ultimately aiming at independent wheel suspension and any anti rolling device seems necessarily to try and force two wheels to move parallel to one another. Our candid opinion is that while anti-rolling devices may prove very desirable on certain cars, Mr. Sogetin's Stabilisateur does not seem to have any merit because exactly the same result can be obtained with much greater simplicity as you will see from our sketch.
