Dear Mr. Skinner,

Following up my letter Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bwg{J. C. Bowring}2/KW17.10.34.

Since writing we have had another epidemic of flooding carburetters and have found a likely cause of the trouble -

(1) The end faces of the needles are very rough, forming a number of ridges which could easily become "jambed" on the fork control.

(2) Where the needle is located on the fork a definite hollow is made by the continued operation of the needle, which, combined with the rough needle end, makes the chances of sticking even worse.

Will you please see that all needles have a better finish in this respect on future carburetters?

Reverting to Fuel Pumps. You sent us two pumps to test, in which the cores have been dropped .015 - .020 (i.e., as they were originally on production pumps). So far these seem to be O.K. with regard to noise, and the output is ample, being in the region of 150 pints/hr. through the system. Seeing that the delivery is not affected will you please supply all future pumps with the cores in this position, as so far this seems to be the cure for noisy pumps, a large number of which we have had lately. Meanwhile we will keep the two pumps supplied running.
