[Struck through] FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} ORIGINAL R3/M25.11.25. Copy to - [Illegible] " - [Illegible] " - [Illegible] " - HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X7420 X7980 X7430 EAC.7. - NEW LIGHTER FRONT AXLE. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} hopes shortly to send you the new front axle which is intended for this chassis. We believe you will find it considerably lighter, and many parts are easier to make than the present one. Improvement has been made in the better lubrication of the lower bearing and thrust, and a roller bearing is fitted where the lubrication is doubtful. This axle ought to save about 25% in weight on the present main and stub axles. It will be available for all Phantoms as soon as tested and proved. Regarding the steering for this car Mr. Hardy is just finishing the arrangement we have made. It is intended that this car shall have 45" front springs, equal ended, and probably 66" or 68" rear springs. The 'D' steering in this model car will have a 12" high, compressed cushion, and wheel raised 1", so that the drivers view shall be improved, as regards bonnet and radiator. You will remember that we have also asked for an alternate steering wheel having a specially small rim and a deleted 4th. spoke. This should be drawn at WW. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
