The experiment of having a soft third motion shaft to keep the top and third gears in mesh has not so far been a success. We want therefore to get further testing done on the American scheme of driving on six adjacent teeth only. For this purpose will you please fit to Box No. 8HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} the first motion shaft, third motion shaft, and all the top and third synchromesh mechanism, at present in 4HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}141.
