X.4333 GOSHAWK 11. IMPROVED TYPE COMMUTATOR.

We send you herewith drawing No. Lec 1578 showing an improved form of commutator for Goshawk 11. dynamo that Mr. Royce would like made and tried at the earliest possible moment.

You will notice that the bakelite insulation is supported by a central piece of knurled steel tubing on a steel washer at each end. The idea is that this metal centre is put together under pressure while the steel ring holding the commutator bars is still in position after the commutator has been removed from the die.

It is presumed that the copper bars and separators are put into the die confined in a steel ring, and it will be seen that this steel ring must not be removed until the bakelite is supported, otherwise the old trouble of loose commutator bars will result.

A further scheme alternative to Lec 1578 will follow in which a thin layer of bakelite is used between the commutator bars and the metal centre and the latter is forced together under pressure by the moulding die itself.

[Handwritten note]
Whenever E sent a missive to Sa it carried the instruction as from R & wanted at the earliest possible moment
