4. Re/IBW.3/H.10.9.37. Ignition Distributor. Delco-Remy. Incorporating DR.292. Details 1 and 2. No trouble was experienced. There was no hand control, and it was not missed at any time. Water Pump. LOP.EH.907. "Palmetto" Gland Packing Fitted. There were no leaks from the gland during the mileage. Flywheel and Clutch. LOP.CR.{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester}962. Standard 25/30 Borg and Beck Clutch. The oil reported leaking from the rear main bearings found its way on to the facings resulting in slipping and jaggers and this combined with the unsatisfactory engine mounting prevents a true value being given. It is claimed that the oil is carried in as vapour by the air centrifugally circulated inside the clutch. The trouble should disappear when the oil leaks are cured. Gearbox and Actuating Gear LOP.CR.{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester}1326. The syncromesh was good at the start but deteriorated during the running, and was inoperative at the end of the mileage. This was due to failure of the cast iron syncromesh cones incorporated for cheapness, and a return to bronze is to be made. The gears were quiet except for an over run whine at low speeds, until near the end of the mileage when all gears became somewhat noisy, attributed to cast iron from the cones in the oil. False engagement of second gear from neutral was sometimes made. This is a general characteristic of trying to engage a syncromesh gear at rest, and at present the difficulty cannot be overcome without reducing the effectiveness of the syncromesh.. | ||
