Dear Sirs,

With reference to your special 'Wakefield' Gear Compound', for use in Hypoid rear axles, samples of which you submitted to us as an alternative to 'Whitmore's 'O' Compound; we have used this oil in an axle during our standard Dynamometer test.

On this test the gears failed. It is evident, therefore, that you have not been successful in reproducing the characteristics of the Whitmore 'O' Compound.

We might add that we have tested your Castrol 'R' oil under similar conditions, three axles were tested and one failed; evidently Castrol 'R' is more nearly the correct oil for the job.

In view of the fact that we have scrapped two sets of gears testing your oils, we must ask you to get the Gleason Co., to approve of any further samples you may want to test.

You will remember that a long time ago, we gave you the information that we should want a satisfactory oil
