SECRET. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Clapham 1022 File Suspension general Cern To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. (crossed out) Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}18/JH.26.6.40. re Rear Spring Aft Shackle. Rippletto. On PL.236 and PL.270 we shew schemes for the support of the rear spring aft shackle in conjunction with the sheet metal 2nd. cross member. On PL.270 we shew a scheme which was devised for the first car only, because it used existing forgings, with modified machining. The scheme PL.236 shews the final arrangemnt. Unfortunately the scheme as drawn will need to be modified in some respects when used on any other car than Rippletto because the sheet metal cross member is only suitable for a 12 gallon petrol tank. We are in process of rationalising the petrol tanks of Senior Rationalised range, and we shall endeavour to have a sheet metal or other form of 2nd. cross member capable of allowing the use of any tank from 12 gall. to 22 galls. and 50 ins. or 56 ins. springs. The writer is not very happy about the attachment of the cantilever to the frame in the two schemes proposed, as the heel of the base is so small. It was agreed, however, that the scheme should be tried on the first Rippletto. For the final design of shackle cantilever, for use with the Rationalised tanks, we hope to improve the mechanics of this fixing, we are studying American practice. 1 copy of memo. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1 print for Oy. 1 print for Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. 1 print for Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} file original at Strong Room Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
