For the attention of Mr. Winser.

Dear Sirs,

My apologies for not replying to your letters of May 9th. and July 25th. earlier, the last one was overlooked as I was away on holiday at the time. I have not written before as no useful information in regard to the belts your sent us was available - actually we have just started to carry out comparative tests between your belts and belts made by Messrs. Dayton, Goodrich and the people who are making the American construction belt here in this country. The latter are associated with the Manhattan Belt Co. of New York and will be making belts identical with that Company's products.

We are starting our tests with your Gates Vulco belt (the large size one) and have completed to date 10 1/2 hours running at 4500 r.p.m. (driver and driven pulleys) transmitting 19 HP, the conditions which we specified to you. So far the belt appears very satisfactory. It has only stretched .300" at the inner periphery of its circumference and the slip with this belt is only 1 1/2% - 2%.

We hope however, to have comparative figures on all the belts in a few weeks time and will aquaint you with the results as soon as we have them.

Thanking you again for the interest you have taken in this matter.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
