Re. Fitting Heavy Exhaust Valves on Phantom II.

We have, as suggest, had 25-EX fitted up with heavy exhaust valves, keeping the standard valve springs, but fitted the stronger tappet springs. The result as far as valve spring swish, is quite passable. There is a silent period when running in 3rd. gear at 45 - 48 m.p.h. and on the overrun at 35 m.p.h. but we should not consider the period would be objected to. On direct drive, there are no appreciable audible periods.

Tests for valve bounce.
Speedo. Readings.
2nd. Gear .... 50 m.p.h. .. Valves Bounce.
3rd. Gear .... 72 m.p.h. .. Valves Bounce.

The following are the modifications :-
Exhaust Guide E.82489 replacing E.80298.
Exhaust Valves E.82488 fitted.
Exhaust Valve Packing E.82488 replacing E.80301
Top nat E.82487 replacing E.80300.
5/1 comp. ratio.
Stronger Tappet Springs E83405.
