It will be readily apparent from examining the above results that the quality of the oil both as to sediment and water content when the B.W.P. device is used is very superior to the quality of that oil which is forced to the bearings when the conventional suction bell and screen assembly is used.

It has been stated by responsible authorities that the greatest wear developing in an engine for a given period of time takes place during the first initial 1/2 hour of operation on the car manufacturer's breaking in stand. This because of the presence to a severe extent of foreign elements and abrasive material, which in spite of all efforts of the assembly divisions, find their way into the lubricant at the time when the clearances in the engine are closest, and when the presence of a particle of abrasive material produces the deepest cuts and scratches in the relative moving surfaces. It is during this period of operation that the lubricating oil being forced to the bearings should be of the purest ever desirable during the life of the engine.

We have definitely shown that our contention that the drawing of the oil from a level high above the surface of the oil sump such as produced by the B.W.P. device is correct; the device producing a distinctive advantage. Manufacturers appreciate the unfavourable conditions mentioned above relative to the crying need for pure oil during the initial breaking in of the engine, and they are as a result installing expensive central lubricating and filtering systems in their engine test departments in an effort to eliminate this damaging condition, which as shown above can be accomplished by the use of the B.W.P. Variable Level Oil Intake.
