1135 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.11/MH.{M. Huckerby} 2nd. December 1938. Messrs. Ferodo Ltd., CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH. For the attention of Mr.Longley. Dear Sirs, Further to our letter of 30th. November, we are to-day returning to you another fan belt, piece No.EB.3927, which has proved unsatisfactory in service. It has run for a total of 71 hours on a test bed engine; of this only 2 1/2 hours has been at high speeds. You will note that the covering of the belt shows signs of disintegration, and the section of the belt shows this to be due to the belt construction, the cords being displaced a good deal from their correct position. As discussed in our telephone conversation of the 30th. inst. we note that an incorrect mould has been used for the construction of these EB.3927 belts. If the writer is able to visit your Works some time next week and bring with him two special fans which we are asking you to test for us, we can probably discuss these belt troubles at greater length. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
