HYDRAULIC DAMPERS. x235 We have fortunately been able to get hold of two customers 20 HP. cars recently with noisy shock absorbers. By working on these we have been able to prove that slack in the links is the main cause of the noise. Apparently, on one of these sensitive cars, the links can wear sufficiently in six or seven weeks running to become audible, because perfect shock absorbers which we have put on one of these cars can now be heard. These were fitted in Nov. last. One of the most disconcerting things is that on our test rig, the noise produced by slack links is not at all emphatic. We are endeavouring to get some links made up in nitro alloy steel, and also to improve the method of manufacture. We shall send a complete report through when we have confirmed all our results. If however you are doing any design work on dampers, we think that the above information might be of value to you. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} | ||
