To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.22/AP.6.3.37.

In connection with the cooling tests which we hope to carry out on Phantom III. radiators and fans at Brooklands, shortly, Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} wishes us to try the effect of a sheetmetal ring around the tips of the fan blades. We have already tried a complete cowl surrounding the fan and enclosing the matrix, without success - we will hand you this cowl and would like you to fit a thin metal ring inside it extending to the matrix face, at the same time cutting away the cowl surrounding the ring in such a manner as to have just sufficient metal to support the fan ring in the centre of the matrix. When the car for the tests is available, we will put it in the Shop so that the cowl ring can be fitted to the radiator.

We also require to test the American made Mk.VII. matrix which we have already requested you to build up into a matrix unit - this unit should be available for interchanging when we put the car in the shop as mentioned above.
