In accordance with your telephonic request, we have examined the brake mechanism of the above chassis, which is now at K for repairs after accident, alleged to be caused by a defect in the braking system. The brake mechanism was examined externally and found to operate normally. All toggle pins and split pins are in position. The front axle is bent back approximately 1" on the nearside, the track rod bent. It was possible for us after fitting another track rod, to test the car on the road exactly in the condition in which it was received. The brakes at the road speed at which they were alleged to have failed were found to be absolutely in order and were normal in every respect. The car was returned to the Shop, jacked up on all four wheels and the engine run. It was possible to stall the engine with the footbrake and the Servo mechanism was operating perfectly. From this we must assume that despite the damage due to accident, the brakes are in perfect working order. K/KC. | ||
