1247 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}3/JH. 17th September, 1938. Messrs. Mead McLean & Co.Ltd., Grand Buildings, Trafalgar Square, LONDON.W.C.2. Dear Sirs, With reference to your letter of August 27th., re the R.R. Draughtless Ventilator, ref. M/MD. Whilst we appreciate your interest in the ventilation we are not yet able to give an opinion to our coachbuilders owing to the fact that we have had insufficient testing experience. Since first fitting the ventilators you will appreciate the fact that we were obliged to go to considerable trouble in making a wooden moulding to reduce wind noise. Since then the brass pins on the hinges failed, steel ones have recently been fitted, the method of obtaining the friction we do not consider good. We now have constant rattles from the very small supporting pins which carry the ventilators, a much better fixing is called for here. Would it not be possible to fix the top and bottom supporting brackets permanently to the frame work? We should be very glad if these suggested modifications could be incorporated in the two sets of ventilators which you are preparing for us. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
