Referring to Mr. Wormald's car, my own impression is that a greater improvement can be made to the riding of the car by adding weight on the luggage grid than by simply the addition of passengers, the reason for this being that the moment of inertia of the car about the axis parallel to the axles is definitely increased and the movement of the body therefore retarded by the addition of the luggage owing to the fact that the distance of the centre of gravity of the luggage is dimensionally far from the axis about which the body revolves.
