X7230. To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Ha/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}20MJ.20.4.32. P.2 RESONANCE TYPE EXHAUST SILENCERS. We have now done sufficient work on the resonance type silencer you made us, to believe that we shall be able to dispense with the front expansion box both on the 25 HP. and P.2. We therefore want to try a straight through pipe to the sliding joint on both the P.2 and 25 HP., on to which we can attach the central tube of the existing short type of silencer. To the extremity of this tube we want to fit an adaptor for carrying the fishtail (Sketch 1) and we can then slide the resonance chamber (Sketch 2) along the pipe until we find the optimum point for damping. We may, in addition, want to utilise one or more element composed of the conical baffles you have already made, and to use these we have asked you to produce four additional sliding flanges.
