To HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to CJ. " " DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} " " EFC. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} MAR 17 1921 RECEIVED ORIGINAL E4/G17/3/21. X 3891 RE 40/50 H.P. - PETROL LEVEL INDICATOR. X 3882 Referring to the above, Mr. Royce wishes to know if the very large apertures in the 40/50 H.P. petrol tank baffles may be the cause of the petrol moving about sufficiently to upset the level indicator, and allow the finger to get out of phase with the magnet by half a turn. With both the finger armature and the horse shoe magnetised, the aforegoing point does not apply of course, but Mr. Royce thinks that if the agitations of the petrol was the cause of the original trouble with the indicator, then it is better in any case to use only small holes through the petrol tank baffles, as the only duty these holes have to do is to feed petrol as required from one compartment to another.
