To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. Handwritten notes: ✓ R.H.P. Rem Are 84057. E By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} See By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hotel de France, Chateauroux, FRANCE. 8.12.32. 2.PER.II. SERVO. I have broken the small locking washer, G.100565, of the adjustment. Could you supply a new one. I had locked the servo solid, and in trying to release it, the washer split in two or three pieces. I have locked it up by fitting a half nut. (Handwritten note: * P.R. Please supply) We ran our full mileage yesterday, chiefly over bad roads. The severe shaking loosened two of the bolts at the manifold joint and they were lost. The exhaust system is standing up to the strains very well, and since altering the anchorage of the rear silencer, we have had no further trouble of the bands moving. The worst feature of the system is the swinging anchorage of the swanneck. This has become loose and chatters. This expensive anchorage is not necessary. The plain strip of steel as fitted to the Phantom is quite satisfactory for the work it has to do. The snout has opened out, the welding of the dividing strips having broken away. This frequently happens and is no indication that the pressure is too great. ENGINE. Points that require attention :- (1) Noisy tappets. (2) Noisy engine gears. (3) Noisy oil pump. (4) Cork washer for rocker cover joint. (5) Dynamo cover is difficult to remove owing to closeness to engine case. (6) Important to frequently oil the bearing of the ignition rotor. (7) Difficulty in removing distribution cover to attend to contact points. | ||
