RP 81 S. SMITH & SONS (Motor Accessories) LTD. CRICKLEWOOD WORKS, LONDON, N.W.2. CONTINUATION NO. 1 Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. 20th June 1938. the carburetter passing over the top of the cuff valve, which is controlled by the thermostat in the centre of the unit. When the pre-determined temperature is attained the cuff valve moves upwards allowing cold air to enter at its base, thus short circuiting the heater coils. The design enclosed is arranged for the air to be taken from outside the bonnet by means of a pipe connected to a shrouding around the inlet of the unit, but on test we found that this shrouding interfered with the air flow. The alternative design has not got this shrouding and does not take the air from the outside, the air instead enters at the base as shown by the direction of the arrows marked on the print. Yours faithfully, For S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LIMITED. [Signature: H.J. Gracie.] | ||
