Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.1/JH. 21st May, 1936. Messrs. Borg & Beck Co.. Ltd., Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Dear Sirs, We have to acknowledge with thanks your letter of the 19th instant, the contents of which we have noted. Your letter to our Buying Dept. (ref. Ts/AMS/LP{Mr Lappin}) has been passed on to us, and with regard to the third paragraph we should like it to be appreciated that we are very anxious that the production of the 13¾" plates are not in any way delayed pending a report from us that the sample plate is satisfactory. If the plates are correctly made to the dimensions agreed upon during the writer's visit to your Works there is no question that they will free properly when assembled in the clutch. With regard to the two plates you recently sent to us with specially arranged U-slots, we find on inspection that the run-out and cushioning exceed the permissible limits, and we shall be returning them to you for correction in the near future. As we pointed out during our discussion, the advisability or otherwise of changing the position of the U-slots is almost entirely a manufacturing consideration. If you find it easier to make the plates with the modified slots we shall be agreeable to adopt them when we have assured ourselves that they give no increased tendency to jagger. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
