Further Stiffening of Front End of Frame.

B.111, B.50 and Wraith 80 - PD. 295.

This scheme shows a method of adding slight further stiffness to the front end of the frame for B.111, B.50 and Wraith 80, taking advantage of the fact that on all experimental cars packing has been inserted between the ball joint housing at the rear of the torque arm and the frame. The frame at this point has been dropped 0.250", the maximum amount considered advisable by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} The reason for increasing the stiffness is the trouble experienced on 1.B.50 car with deflection of the frame at this point.

At the same time advantage has been taken of the one alteration to provide a flat base for the mounting of the gear change lever bracket on the frame, by moving back the join between the sloping part of the frame and the level top of frame to a point where it will be clear of this bracket attachment but will still be forward of the gusset between cross and frame.

Parts altered are frame side member, front gusset and cross, on/both sides of the car. A revised mounting of the gear change lever bracket will be required, and it may be necessary to modify the accelerator pedal bracket.
