X3575? ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. OyS-E-121525 December 15, 1925. Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby, England. Re Kingston Oil Vac and Oil Aerator Dear Hives: We are shipping to you a Kingston Oil-Vac Tank as promised in our letter of October 7th. This will be marked for your personal attention. Unfortunately we have not yet found an opportunity to test the other one which we are keeping however, in the hope of getting it on the axle-test car before long. The objection to its use as far as I can gather without having tested it is that it may not be possible to use it with the simple induction-pipe suction. This I explained in my letter of Oct. 7th. In looking around for a suitable suction device the makers have evolved the vane-type oil pump, of which their suggested layout (not very good) is shown in the attached print. It was proposed that this supplementary oil pump should be used to supply oil to the timing gears only. A better scheme, tested by Cadillac, is to use the pressure air-pump with reversed connections for producing the suction, (see letter of October 7th.) We think that all that is necessary is to connect the suction line from the vacuum tank to the air intake of the Silver Ghost air pump. | ||
