EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

Expl. No. 4226

REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG16.8.23.

Variation in Timing.

As the engine speed is increased, the valve timing becomes slightly later. Maximum variation from 500 - 3000 r.p.m. is 3°.

Gear Rattles.

As long as damping springs are used, the timing does not vary more than stated above, but when the damping springs are removed, gear rattling takes place at low speeds and the camshaft oscillates as much as 6° measured on flywheel i.e., 3° on Camshaft.

The results give an indication that the power required to turn the Camshaft is very small.
