Dear Sirs,

We are experimenting with a rear axle having Hypoid bevel gears.

The Hypoid gear is a spiral bevel in which the pinion is off-centre from the crown wheel. This means that there is a certain amount of sliding taking place on the tooth surfaces.

The Gleason Co. of America make this gear - their Agents in England are - Messrs. Buck & Hickman.

They recommend a special oil to be used with these gears. Messrs. Buck & Hickman have all the particulars.

We should be very glad if you could get into touch with these people and get the Gleason Co. to approve of one of your oils for use with these gears. We should like the Gleason people to test the oil because they have more experience with these gears.

Will you please let us know whether you are prepared to do this.

Yours faithfully,
