Weight of Noise Insulation Scheme on the Bentley.

Further to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}15/KW.6.6.35, we have been trying to account for the discrepancy between our figure of 21 lbs. and the Coachbuilders figure of 50 lbs. for this scheme. We find that the discrepancy is largely due to the fact that -

(1) The rubber mats in the Bentley have recently been dispensed with. These are an integral part of the noise insulation scheme and we assumed that they were being used on the standard cars and therefore did not debit the insulation scheme with this weight.

(2) We had omitted to include the weight of the adhesive used.

We attach a revised weight summary, the first half of which is what is at present being used, and the second half what we consider might be the minimum, to get a portion of our silencing results.

We are arranging to go down to Park Wards and talk over this suggested insulation scheme of reduced weight with JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} If we can get it tried on a number of cars and it seems reasonably successful, it could be standardised in place of the present arrangement.
