DIAGRAM OF PHANTOM HOT SPOT TESTS. STEAM VENT PIPE CONNECTING WATER OUTLET TO INLET UNION OF HOT SPOT JACKET. THERMOMETER IN OIL IN INDUCTION PASSAGE OF HOT SPOT SEPARATE HOT SPOT WITH INDUCTION PASSAGE FILLED WITH 29 CU INS SPERM OIL. CAPACITY OF JACKETS 2.5 GALLS. RETURN PIPE TO PUMP. BOTH INLET & OUTLET PIPES WERE .675 INSIDE DIAM. THE RECORDING THERMOMETER WAS IMMERSED IN THE OIL SO THAT THE CENTRE OF THE MERCURY BULB WAS .900 BELOW SURFACE OF OIL. WHEN MAKING FUTURE TESTS THE QUANTITY OF OIL & DEPTH OF THERMOMETER SHOULD BE THE SAME AS ABOVE THE TEST ON THE STD. EXH.
