X.3652 To Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG13.10.20. X.3563. RE SYLPHON THERMOSTATS. X.3652. With reference to the attached correspondence in regard to the above, the only further question I think may be useful to us is to ask them what limits they allow for the operating of the Thermostat, for instance, we should like to be able to test all the Sylphon Tubes before we put them into engines to see that they are not damaged or leaking and at the same time if they will give us a reasonable range we could check to see that all the Sylphon Tubes came within this range. It is undoubtedly to our advantage to give these people a full description of how we intend to use the Sylphon tubes they supply. They must have accumulated valuable information of the best ways of using these tubes because they hold practically a monopoly. I recommend that at the same time we send them drawings of our installation, we should ask them to kindly criticize them and let us know in their opinion, whether there are any reasons why it should not be successful. We should also be very pleased if they would let us know from their experience what are the risks of freezing up of the radiator when a system is used similar to ours. We should be very grateful for this information because it is a point which we feel anxious about. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
