RE: CHASSIS GEX.68.

On removing the propeller shaft from the above car for the purpose of fitting a slipper wheel as requested, two facts came to light which it was considered would account for the gearbox rattles complained of.

In the first place, the sliding joint at the gearbox end was packed so absolutely full of grease as to prevent free end movement on the splines and secondly, there was excessive end float in the third motion shaft.

Therefore, instead of fitting the slipper wheel, as intended, the car was returned to test after re-assembling, with a minimum of grease in the sliding joint, and the end float in the third motion shaft reduced from .010" to .001".
It is understood the road test report is satisfactory.
