W/S. To C. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. c. to Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} 340 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.9/AP.25.3.37. PH.III. RADIATORS. Referring to your C.13/C.23.3.37, in view of the fact that we have arranged for Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} to have some replacement matrix units in case of further complaints, we think it advisable to wait until we have been able to examine one or two defective matrices before taking any drastic action such as changing all Mk.V. matrices in service. The defect in the Mk.V. matrices which we suspect is not peculiar to all Mk.V. matrices - it is a manufacturing defect and applies to an unknown percentage of the cars with Mk.V. matrices.
