-4- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/MJ.29.7.35. Cont'd which has proved successful in the past. This piston was departed from in the first place because it was not so good for power as the semi-split type. SpectreCodename for Phantom III in France at present suffers from cold knocks and high oil consumption. (4) Broken Push Rods. A broken push rod has only just been reported and therefore as yet we have had no time to deal with this trouble. (5) Leak from the Pinion Bearing on the near Axle. This has only just been reported. It has not been dealt with as yet. (6) Size of Carburetter Throttle. We find that the power output is being restricted by the size of the carburetter throttles. We are seeing if the existing design will permit of the dimensions being increased at this point. (7) Leaks from the Front Shock Absorbers. In spite of having overcome two leaks on the shock absorbers oil is still being lost due to the outer flange being strained when the yoke piece hits the rubber buffer. A modified design has been issued but it remains to be seen whether this will overcome the trouble. (8) Chunking in the Drive. This is bad on the existing cars. We have proved that it can be improved by cutting down the gearbox clearances. We also anticipate that a heavier flywheel may alleviate the trouble. Until we get good slow running however we anticipate that the car will be criticised in this respect. It is likely to be worse than the Phantom. (9) Rear axle Dither on Pave. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} reports that this is worse than the Phantom and at present we do not know how to cure it. It has been improved by tying the rear of the body to the chassis, but even after doing this the feature is worse than on the Phantom. (10) Bijur System. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} has recently reported that the Bijur system at the rear of the car is unsatisfactory but we have not yet had time to | ||
