R.R. 235A (150 H) (W.W. 529. 2-7-14) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 0670. ( C O P Y ) Original to Mr Hives 24.6.14 EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Mr.Hives. Re. Tappet Spanner - E.4272. E2/G23614. Your memo EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}3/W18614, to hand. It is quite right that with one set of the spanner the two tappets cannot be locked at once, but there is an object in this. The long jaws would soon be easily opened out if they were subjected to the pressure of the adjustment, and for this reason they have been made a diameter equivalent to the diameter of the tappet, in accordance with Mr. Royce's instructions, so as to prevent scraping the spanner in use. Thus, each tappet adjustment will require a fresh placing of the tappet spanner. I shall be glad to hear further from you on this point. MADE AT CROXLEY E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 24.6.14. Noted, I still think doing two tappets at once a useful point and the spanner should be suitably strong.
