A.{Mr Adams} Wormald, Esq.,

I am shipping the Oil Springs with a portion of the oil removed. This adds to the flexibility of the device and makes it possible to make use of a stronger action of the shock absorbers without making the reaction jerky. It is, of course, a simple matter if you find their action is too soft to add, or if too hard to remove more oil.

I am attaching hereto a blueprint showing diagramatically the action of a stiff spring unaided, and a more flexible spring combined with the action of the Oil Springs. The result shows that the combined reaction of spring and Oil Springs gives in effect the action of flexible springs over good road conditions and increasingly stiffer springs as the road conditions become worse.

I am also attaching hereto instructions for mounting upon your car. I appreciate too wellthat you will find the actual construction of these Oil Springs not what is commonly considered Rolls Royce practice. This, of course, is necessary under our commercial conditions in this country in order to make a commercially practical article for general use. It would be a simple matter, if desired, to design the body of the Oil Spring for attachment directly to the frame and to connect with link and ball joints the lever to the axle, which is European practice. There are certain ad-vantages, however, with scissors type which works in better with our conditions.

Yours very truly,

THE RETRAC COMPANY
