As a result of your Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Evl/M3.9.28, a number of enquiries have been made and offers of this type of lamp bulb have been received back from various makers. At the same time we have, in the main, been referred to Messrs. Lucas as to the suitability of using such bulbs in their P.100 headlamps.

We have actually in stock two double filament bulbs (36 watts each filament) of this type which we obtained some time ago in connection with a trial of this idea, which however we do not think was ever carried out.

The result of these enquiries etc. is that we have received from Messrs. Lucas a letter of which the attached is a copy, from which you will see that their recommendation is to discourage us from carrying this matter any further.

We shall be interested to learn from you if, after reading the attached letter, we should in your opinion endeavour to go any further in the matter.

You will note that they refer to correspondence between yourselves and Mr. Oliver Lucas concerning a mechanically operated dipping reflector for the P.100 headlamp. We do not know whether the word 'mechanically' in this connection refers to their new electrically operated dipping reflector or whether it merely refers to the pneumatic operation, of which we have already an example on our expl. chassis E-64.1063

We also understand that you have placed an order for our three SS.{S. Smith} chassis sets of Lucas lamps with the electrical operation, which lamps will presumably be of their R.160S type (1929), as we note from their most recent catalogue (copy of which we have just received) that this electrical dipping operation is only at the moment applicable to their types RB.{R. Bowen}60 and R160S projectors.

Will you please give us details of what you have ordered for these three chassis.

Letter attached.
