To By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Ed. {J. L. Edwards} c.c. Ds. c.c. Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /Ev. {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c.c. By {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /CS. RADIATOR MANUFACTURE. In a visit paid to John Marston Ltd. yesterday by the writer, the question of Radiator manufacture from our detail and arrangement drawings was discussed. It was recommended by John Marstons that instead of sending approximately forty detail drawings to Marstons, we simply send them a carefully and accurately drawn arrangement incorporating all the essential leading dimensions and let them do their own details. This, they claim, will be a considerable improvement on the present scheme where very often an adverse accumulation of tolerances leads to difficulty in assembly, and is the process followed by S.S. and several other firms. Further, for experimental radiators, the whole job can be completed from the scheme drawing, saving manufacturing time at Marstons and detailing time at these works. We recommend, therefore, that in view of the above, and the simplification which must follow both in our designing and Marston's manufacturing processes, that we adopt this scheme for all future radiators.
