re BENZOLE MIXTURES AND
ETHYL LEAD SPIRITS ON
BENTLEY CARS.
-------------

Having recently suggested to Inspecting Engineers that in the many cases of "pinking" they would do well to advocate the use of an Ethyl lead spirit, St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} has written to me as per enclosed copy.

It rather looks as if we should definitely circulate that an Ethyl petrol is better than a Benzole mixture, even when the latter can be obtained.

The other point which seems to want clearing up is the detrimental effect which Ethyl appears to have on sparking plugs. This is a view very commonly held apparently and it would be interesting to know whether, in spite of it we should still recommend an Ethyl petrol rather than a Benzole mixture.
