X180 v3729 Re After the War Chassis. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}1/NJ121016. 12th October,1916. In my note Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}1/NJ121016, I asked yourself and Mr.Royce whether we should build two new bodies for the new experimental chassis which we propose to make, or whether we should find two second-hand bodies. Mr.Royce replied in his note R6/W31016 saying "I think in all cases the chassis should be, if possible, fitted with a good and suitable body and upholstered so that we can judge it correctly. it would probably be expensive but generally it is a body that, when the cushions are recovered and the painting complete can be sold with the chassis. In the meantime, the chassis can often be used usefully and criticised by people whose opinion is of value, especially does this apply to the cover body which is being prepared for Mr.Johnson's criticism. Some of these wretched old bodies would put one out of friends with the best of chassis." On the other hand, Mr.Cowen says that there are two second-hand bodies at Barker's which may be suitable. I shall be glad to have your decision in the matter as to whether we should use the second-hand bodies or build new ones. Mr.Cowen points out that new bodies, at the present time, would take a long time to build and would be extremely expensive. Rpd. C3/H 261016 Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} | ||
