Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Pxtl/ADL6.5.31 contd. -3- Lucas originally had a two charge scheme - they have now a three charge scheme. This is arranged by having a switch to give Summer and Winter charging rate which is obtained by varying lengths of resistance in the field, but when the head lamps are switched on the resistances are cut out. Consideration has got to be given to the control of the output especially when we have a machine which gives more current. 20/25 The proposal is that the 20/25 shall follow the 40/50 dynamo. We have now a 48 coil machine for the 20/25. This is similar to the 40/50 except that it has not the latest modification of leaving off the tape on the armature coils. The output of the machine, which is shewn on the attached curve, is very much better than the one which is at present standard and being delivered on cars. It is proposed to use this machine on the second half of "T" series in conjunction with the two charge scheme. We expect to carry out the same modification as we have on P.2. and this, if successful, will be standardised as a further improvement. In this case we are satisfied that the increased output will overcome most of our troubles of insufficient charge because machines with a similar performance have been supplied to customers who have complained and we have overcome the trouble complained of.
