Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} S/KT. 5.11.32.

We were glad to hear that you got to Folkestone satisfactorily.

The point we should like to know about first is the engine mounting on your car. You have, as you know, two sets of torque reaction dampers. My impression is that there is hardly any torque reaction and therefore we shall be able to throw away the torque reaction dampers between the crankcase and the frame, and retain those only on the front engine mounting.

It you will let us know about this soon, it will help us to make a final decision on the engine mounting for the 2nd Peregrine.

The next point of importance is the shock absorbers. We want to know whether these are quiet and whether they show any signs of oil leaks. The whole Works are starved of shock absorbers with the object of fitting the new type as soon as possible. Therefore anything you can say for or against them will be of great interest to us.

The 3rd. point is the exhaust system. We do not expect you to get a quiet exhaust system as well as run miles, and we are keeping one car continuously on the job here. I did feel, however, on the run down to London, that the mounting of the exhaust system was contributing to the roughness of the engine. By hanging up the system both vertically and horizontally you can probably soon establish the point.

Since we believe that we can make the brake system O.K. and we know of a number of reasons why the one on your car will not function satisfactorily, we do not want you to bother much about this.
