1269 To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.2/MH.{M. Huckerby}14.7.38. TESTS ON WRAITH WATER PUMPS ON PHANTOM III RIG. We have found with the special drive shaft EXS.831 which you have recently fitted up for us on the above rig, that owing to the length of this shaft it is impossible to get it to run truly, and steady bearing is therefore necessary. Will you please fit this up for us on the rig in the following manner. Remove armature, commutator end bearing bracket complete with brush gear and end cover from the dynamo belonging to the rig and reverse same end for end on the engine. Fit adaptor sleeve to the drive shaft EXS.831 to fit the dynamo end bearing D.70450. We would like you to fit this arrangement up as soon as possible so that we can carry on running on the Vauxhall type and Tufnel bearing larger Wraith pumps. When we have completed our next test on the Tufnel bearing pump will you please fit standard Wraith pump to the rig together with the standard P.III dynamo and fit up coupling to ECD.587.
