Petrol Gauge Warning Light Failure

Re. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.16/KW.19.6.36.

We have orders from G.W.H. that we may only act upon instructions from Derby that are signed either by Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} or Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} We have however forwarded a copy of the above memo to G.W.H. for his sanction so that we can carry out Les's instructions.

We can now give some data on the trouble experienced. The petrol first found its way up past the spindle into the resistence box, probably when the tank was overfilled. It then leaked from the top cover plate and found its way on to the wires leading to the unit. Part of the insulation of these forms an excellent wick so that the rubber covering of the wires is kept moist with petrol for prolonged periods and consequently deteriorates. The leak is only very slight, but owing to the absorbent nature of the insulation, the effect is cumulative.
